EV MOT at D&G Autocare

Electric vehicles require an MOT in the same way as petrol and diesel cars, with the same DVSA testing standards applying.

At D&G Autocare, our technicians are trained to work safely around EV systems and high-voltage components while carrying out your vehicle’s MOT.

EV MOT FAQs

Is an EV MOT different from a standard MOT?

There is no separate DVSA MOT test specifically for electric vehicles. EVs are tested against the same applicable MOT standards as petrol and diesel vehicles.

The key difference is that electric vehicles contain high-voltage electrical systems and components that technicians need to work around safely.

What is checked during an EV MOT?

An EV MOT covers the same applicable safety checks as a standard MOT, including tyres, brakes, steering, suspension, lights and other key components.

Additional EV considerations can include:

  • Visible high-voltage cables
  • Signs of damage to electrical components
  • EV system warning lights
  • Charging ports and associated equipment where applicable

There is no separate DVSA MOT test for electric vehicles, but technicians still need to understand how to inspect and work safely around EV-specific components.

Does an EV MOT cost more?

No separate MOT fee applies simply because a vehicle is electric.

The current maximum DVSA fee for a Class 4 car MOT is £54.85, the same maximum fee that applies to equivalent petrol and diesel cars.

Can D&G Autocare MOT electric vehicles?

Yes. Our technicians are appropriately trained to work around electric vehicle systems and use the equipment and safety procedures required when working with high-voltage vehicles.

Whether you need an MOT, routine servicing or replacement tyres, we can help keep your EV or hybrid performing at its best.
