EV Servicing FAQs

How is EV servicing different from petrol or diesel servicing?

EVs do not require many traditional service items such as engine oil, oil filters, fuel filters, spark plugs or exhaust system checks.

Some components, such as cabin or pollen filters, may still be shared with petrol or diesel versions of the same vehicle.

What is included in an EV service?

Typical EV service checks can include:

  • Brake inspection and maintenance
  • Suspension and steering checks
  • Tyre condition and wear inspection
  • Cabin or pollen filter replacement
  • Battery health and charging system checks
  • High-voltage cable inspection
  • Coolant checks where applicable

The exact service requirements will vary depending on the vehicle and manufacturer schedule.

Do electric cars still need regular servicing?

Yes. Although EVs have fewer traditional engine components, they still rely on brakes, tyres, steering, suspension, cooling systems and electrical components that require regular inspection and maintenance.

Following the manufacturer’s recommended service schedule can help keep the vehicle safe and operating correctly.

Does EV servicing require specialist equipment?

Working on electric vehicles requires appropriate knowledge, diagnostic equipment and safe working procedures around high-voltage systems.

D&G Autocare uses specialist equipment and trained technicians to carry out EV servicing safely and correctly.

Is EV servicing cheaper than petrol or diesel servicing?

It can be. EV servicing is often less labour intensive because there are fewer traditional service items to replace.

However, costs vary depending on the vehicle, manufacturer requirements and any diagnostic or maintenance work needed.

Whether you need an MOT, routine servicing or replacement tyres, we can help keep your EV or hybrid performing at its best.
