EV Services FAQs

Do electric cars need special tyres?

Not always, but many EVs benefit from tyres designed specifically for electric vehicles.

These tyres are typically developed to support higher vehicle weight, reduce rolling resistance, minimise road noise and complement the handling characteristics of the vehicle.

Do EV tyres wear out faster?

They can.

Electric vehicles are generally heavier than equivalent petrol or diesel models because of the battery pack, which can increase tyre wear. Driving style, tyre pressure, alignment and tyre choice will also affect how quickly tyres wear.

What are manufacturer-approved EV tyres?

Some vehicle manufacturers work with tyre brands to develop tyres specifically for their vehicles.

Common markings include:

  • AO – Audi Original
  • BMW Star Marked
  • MO – Mercedes-Benz Original

These tyres are designed to suit the vehicle’s suspension, handling, noise and efficiency requirements.

What EV tyre brands do D&G Autocare recommend?

Depending on your vehicle and tyre size, suitable ranges may include:

  • Michelin e.Primacy
  • Hankook iON
  • Bridgestone Turanza EV
  • Continental EcoContact and PremiumContact EV-compatible ranges
  • Pirelli Elect

The best option will depend on your vehicle, manufacturer specification and budget.

Are EV tyres more expensive?

EV tyres are designed to offer lower rolling resistance, reduced road noise and improved load carrying capability. They will usually cost slightly more than a standard equivalent tyre, between 5% and 15% give or take, depending on size and manufacturer

The exact price will depend on the tyre size, manufacturer and specification.

Whether you need an MOT, routine servicing or replacement tyres, we can help keep your EV or hybrid performing at its best.
