So many of our cars are fitted with air conditioning and climate control systems these days and many of us are familiar with using air-con in our car on both hot and cold days. It keeps the windows demisted, helps create a comfortable atmosphere and has the magical effect of keeping people and children calmer in traffic jams, especially when the sun is beating down.

Air-con helps because all the air coming into a car, with air-con, passes through a heat-exchanger, which is very cold and quickly becomes dripping wet with condensation. All the dust and stuff is trapped there, then drains out underneath the car.
But your air-con needs to be maintained. There is special refrigerant gas in the air-con system and special oils to keep moving parts lubricated and seals in tip top condition. Some gas and oil escapes over time so they need to be replenished, or your air-con will stop working and repairs can be expensive. Modern car air-con systems should be recharged every 2 years. Most air-con systems fail simply because they are running with insufficient gas and oil in them.
